Edward C. Bolstad passed away January 22, 2026, at his home at the age of 92 with his wife of 36 years, Kathryn, by his side. Ed was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Helen Bolstad, his daughter Lisette Lund, sister Diane Dunn, and former spouse Patricia Bolstad. He is survived by his wife Kathryn Bolstad, children, Danette Gerardin (Christian), Kris Bolstad (Kathy), Andrea Bolstad, son-in-law Tom Lund (Linda), Step daughter Alena Grabowski (Eileen), sister-in-law’s, Bonnie Hromidko, Candy Pinsonneault (Jim), Grandchildren, Jemma, Nicolas (Janie), Geoffrey (Courtney), Keegan, Aveline (Jason), Kelsie (Travis), Regina, 11. Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews and the friends he has met along the way. 

Ed served in the United States Army. He received his Bachelor’s, Masters and Doctorate degrees from the University of Minnesota. Ed followed his love of children and passion for education by teaching elementary school in Minneapolis, serving as the Executive Director of the Minnesota Federation of Teachers and ended his career as Elementary School Principal in Brainerd. He retired in 1996.

Throughout his life he served in various Boards and Committees focusing on the betterment of education and the welfare of people. 

After retirement he and Kathy moved to Grand Marais, MN where he spent many years appreciating the beauty of nature, the arts, community involvement, traveling, volunteering and spending time with his family and friends. He was a beloved and active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. 

Memorials preferred to American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
